Releasing My Past

When our STARTING POINT group moderator asked, "If you could hear Jesus say anything to you, what would it be?" I pondered a bit and weighed if I could share the depths of my insecurities with my church family. I needed to. This could be my moment to be freed from a load of guilt. So, choking back tears and swallowing a lump of pride, I said... "THAT TOO!"

As those words left my lips, I immediately felt a weight lifted, as I publicly shared my shame and insecurities. I needed me and Jesus to have one of our treasured, intimate moments. I needed Him to hold me with those nail-pierced hands and whisper lovingly to me, "Yes my child, I forgave you for THAT TOO!"

Of course, I knew He had already forgiven me of all those things which I dare not mention out loud. Certainly, I’ve read and accepted that, Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1. However, the past is a brutal master, that cruelly enslaves the present and ostracizes the future; if you let it. I willingly allowed it to do just that, with my trauma and circumstances for close to 30 years.

At that moment, in the safety of my small group, with my pastor and family, who genuinely loved me, I took another step towards reconciliation, self forgiveness, healing and freedom in Christ.

Romans 5: 6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

👆🏾 Thank you Jesus! 👆🏾

Family, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to be in fellowship with like-minded brothers and sisters in our faith. You know that thing, that you have been struggling with for years? Well, someone, somewhere overcame it and they have a word and a testimony that could help you in your healing journey. You too are being used in your brokenness, to encourage someone, who has found themselves in the valley, that you were in all those years before. My That Too, later sparked a me too for someone else in another small group and I pray, hopefully brought them closer to God and His peace.

What is your unspeakable THAT TOO? God knows. He has already died for it so that you don’t have to. Will you choose to join me on this side of freedom? Together, let’s release our past and walk in the hope and promise of the ultimate burden bearer, Jesus Christ.
