How Can We Be Holy?

Often times when we think of holiness, we immediately begin to think of a rigid commitment to living a moral lifestyle. However, the primary meaning of the word holy is simply "separate".

This is where the term holiday/holi-day derives from. Anything that is set apart can be considered holy in some sense. Our Heavenly Father is Holy because He is completely set apart and superior to every other being in existence.

The Word of God instructs us to be holy even as our Father is Holy.

1 Peter 1:14-16

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is Holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I Am Holy.”

So What Does It Mean For Us To Be Holy?

We see that holiness is directly tied to obedience. Being obedient is difficult and we often fall short of the standard of holiness, to which we are called. However, through the ongoing process of sanctification, God gives us the ability to become more and more like Him. As He draws us closer to Himself, we begin to see the evidence of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. As a result of His presence, we become more obedient, more set apart and therefore more holy.

What is it that made a piece of real estate holy ground, or a building God's holy temple? It was God's presence in that place. The presence of the Holy God makes even the most insignificant thing holy. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives/temples that gives us the ability to be holy as our Father is Holy.

Let us make a special effort to be VMAs this week and share the life-changing Gospel with at least one person. The world needs to hear this Good News. Let us be intentional about sharing God's Truth and not scoff at their ignorance.

Now, Go, by the power of the Holy Spirit and be holy even as your Heavenly Father is Holy.

Pay It Forward - Have a Blessed and Beautiful WAR Wednesday.
