A couple years ago when we were renovating our home, we literally had to start from the foundation up. We planned and budgeted for a cheaper foundation, referred to as a 'hung' floor. We considered this as an easier and more importantly, a cheaper alternative, in both materials and labour.
However, the builders advised that the foundation would be much more secure, if we 'filled in" rather than 'hung' the floor. In essence, the foundation would be more firm and solid, although more expensive. In the end, we chose the more solid foundation.
Just as we are concerned about the type of foundation that we build our physical houses on, we must ensure that we build our spiritual houses on the firm foundation - Jesus Christ.
Be mindful though, that just like the cost associated with foundation for the house, there is a cost and sacrifice attached to following Christ. We may face challenges, storms and trials, but we have the assurance that as long as we continue to stand on the firm foundation, we will be able to withstand anything, because He will sustain us.
Luke 6:48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
Father, we thank You that we have a surety in You. When the storms of life invade, we can stand upon the firm foundation saying, "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand." In Jesus' name. Amen!
